despite a bit of confusion, i managed to make off with $250+ worth of French books from yesterday's conference, to which i showed up just in time for the door prizes (they insisted i put my name in, but i didn't win anything). that should (mostly) cover the Xmas presents for my family. i love this annual conference, and it's great to have contacts sometimes.
i'm feeling under the weather, which is making me antisocial. not sure when that's going to lift, but it will, eventually. in the meantime, i'm perfectly content to play WoW and watch TV, and see the occasional person here and there. it's cheaper than going out, so at least i'm getting something out of it.
Halloween was a bit of a disappointment (so few people seem to celebrate Halloween on the West Island, especially when compared to the South Shore and the boundless enthusiasm i've seen there), and the night didn't end well for me anyway. but it was a shock to see the Xmas decorations up in the mall (and the store) on the morning of the 31st.
I love Xmas. i really do. and while i don't go quite as insane with the decorations and happy-happy as some people, i celebrate in my own way. there's something enchanted about the whole season for me. and yes, i'm fully aware of the increased number of suicides and depression, the consumerist insanity, and the way the whole retail world seems to revolve around this season disturbs me... but i love it. i just wish it wasn't here already.
