an end to misgivings

i'm happily exhausted. feet aching, arms worked to the limit, legs and back toned. my hands throb from myriad cuts and dry skin cracking. even my fingers hurt.

but in a few hours, i feel like i've accomplished more than i have in months.

my favorite part of my old job was building displays. i like the challenge of creating something esthetically pleasing to the eye, while being easy to browse and refill. and for the next few weeks, i've been given carte blanche in my old (though slightly relocated) departement, to fix up the displays/problem areas. and there are many. but just seeing the improvements i've managed in one night (and half that was spent on paperwork!) makes me smile. i missed this part. not to mention the thorough workout you get, lifting stack after stack of heavy books, squatting and leaning and generally maneuvring yourself (and said books) into place. when i leave in a few weeks, i'll know that i've made a significant difference.

this is not to say i want my old job back. gods forbid. but i like this aspect of it, and while i lament the fact that things fell so far so quickly, i can't help but rejoice since it gives me the opportunity to play with, not just books, but MY books.

and since a bit of extra work at home is cutting my friday shift in half, this week is shaping up pretty nicely indeed.

nesting

i find myself with an ever-increasing urge to make my apartment into a home, rather than just a space i'm renting. i've always told myself that it's only temporary, there'll be something better on the horizon soon, but now it looks like we might be here a bit longer, so maybe it's (finally) time to actually make the space ours, rather than just filling it with stuff.

that, and the xmas season makes me want to buy things.

so i've made a list of the things i need to acquire/find/beg for, and i'll be working on that over the next few months, i think. a trip to IKEA is also in order - if i manage to get the car from my dad for a few days, i'll definately have to head over there.

and now for round 2 of the rather enjoyable late nights.
