i'm not going to make it.

i'm going to snap and actually start implementing some of the creative methods of torture i've devised for my downstairs neighbor. the ones upstairs, i can tolerate. they're loud, they've got a new dog, they run around all the time, but that's okay. i lived in the basement in my parents' house for over 5 years. i'm used to that. what i'm having trouble with is the guy downstairs' sense of what is acceptably loud. when i'm feeling charitable, i think he needs a hearing aid. occasionally, my father's jacked up the tv that loud without realizing it, until we all get home and yell at him to turn it down. the downstairs guy, on the other hand, apparently believes that turning it down means turning the button in an upwards direction.

*twitch*

i went out and bought home stereo earphones - yeah, the really huge ones that cover your entire ear and are cushy soft. now all i need to find is an adapter for the TV and i'm all set, except for the vibrations through the floor. (yes, it's that loud. on a consistent basis, too).

and before you all start suggesting i go down there and talk to him, let me recap what happened the last time i did that, and the time before that.

ATTEMPT #1 (several months ago):
me: excuse me, can you please turn your TV down? it's after midnight...
guy downstairs: oh, sure, i'm so sorry, i didn't realize it was so loud.

ATTEMPT #2 (several weeks later):
me: excuse me, can you please turn your radio down? my floor is vibrating...
guy downstairs: --string of profanities ending with the door being slammed in my face and the music going UP --

so, as you can see, i'm not anxious to repeat the experience. oh, and lets not forget that the very thought of going up and knocking on a stranger's door to ask them to turn it down requires several minutes of standing outside the door, convincing myself i need to do this, to calm down, to stop shaking, etc... followed by a full-blown panic attack after i've regained the sanctity of my apartment.

needless to say, i've been spending a whole lot more time cowering in the back room, playing NWN on SG's computer (with his earphones on).

i just wanna go to bed...

are there any air vents that lead down from your apartment to his? you could start throwing nasty things down them. oops, was that my tuna fish sandwhich that's been sitting around for two weeks? did that fall down the vent into your apartment...what a shame :*) maybe if the floor weren't vibrating so it wouldn't get jolted down there, we wouldn't have a problem :*)

nope, no air vents, just the radiators, and i'm fairly certain nothing gets from one floor to the other except noise in those... though just throwing eggs at his door is mightily appealing...

Have you considered calling the police? If he does that after eleven, he's kinda toast in that regards...

Otherwise, you could still at least call them up to see if they can do anything even in regular hours - noise pollution can be illegal, I think. Am not sure on latter...

yeah, i considered it. unfortunately, i'm a wimp. i don't want to start a war with this guy; i won't end up winning, i know that much. and it'll make me even more anxious than his current behavior is. so i'll just leave it alone, bear it as best i could, keep relying on Ford to help me escape when it gets really bad, and hope July comes quickly.

Check with his other neighbors. The next time it happens, all of you confront him. Explain to him that if he does not turn it the FUCK down, you will ALL call the police.

Nicely.

Then, if he turns it up or if the volume remains even remotely in the same area... call the police. Prove to him that it was not a bluff...

You can't be the only one he is disturbing, and group tactics will work. And you won't have to be the only one standing outside in the hall, trying to figure out the best way to approach the topic with a complete ass.

the police just don't seem like the answer; it'll just start him on the warpath, and that's not so good for my paranoia levels. plus the fact that he's best friends with the super (who already dislikes me) makes it a bit more difficult. oh, and have i mentioned that my neighbors don't speak english? or french? or answer the door, for that matter, despite the fact that i can hear them walking around...

Mad for you. :-(

Cut his head off. But, turn the music down first. I hate a loud crime scene.

Come to Unity with me sometime. Same deal, only without the dog suit.
Oh, and no whiny teenage raver-chick brats giving me a lift home. Bastards.

i think Unity's probably too packed for my own personal tastes, but maybe sometime. i usually go to Passeport cause it's not too crowded and the atmosphere is pretty good.

It's all good.

Actually, my semester schedule frees me up on Wednesday nights. I may want to check out Passeport with you guys.
When it warms up a little, of course.
