Movies and books, oh my!

Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews - such a good series, light and silly and fun
The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater (book 2) - I can't recommend this author enough. She writes teen books, yes, but they're intense and intelligent. She has a turn of phrase that I truly appreciate and characters who are whole, flawed, and wonderful. Can't wait for the next book.
The Monuments Men by Robert M. Edsel - I also started reading non-fiction again! This was a fantastic book, quite easy to read actually, with lots of time spent with each person. I'm fascinated by the whole subject, of course, but there were tons of small details that made this fascinating. The characters did blend into one-another quite a bit though, wonder how they'll tackle that in the movie?
Redoubt by Mercedes Lackey - her usual Valdemar style
Histoire des acadiens by Bona Arsenault - a history book I've had on my shelves forever but apparently had never finished. When I picked it up to look up something, it happened to be on the exact page I'd stopped reading at... coincidence? I think not.

Movies
The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009) - long, weird, and kinda boring
The Four Feathers (2002) - good war movie, gaping plot holes
Out of Africa (1985) - we actually saw this on the big screen and it was lovely
Gangster Squad (2013) - good mob movie, nothing great, but I didn't feel as much of an urge to strangle Ryan Gosling as I usually do
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) - ridiculous, campy, but a lot more fun than I thought it would be. They didn't take themselves seriously, and I think I'm slightly in love with Gemma Arterton. Just saying.
* also, the housemate and I have been marathoning the Harry Potter movies, followed by Disney-esque movies. So much goodness there.

Other
* drop-in hip-hop class. Totally impulsive. It kicked my ass, of course - I am woefully out of shape and have a disturbing tendency of getting very, very dizzy when my blood gets pumping (that's twice now). But I really enjoyed it and would go back again once I get back into exercising regularly. In the meantime, I want to find a Bollywood class somewhere in the city (not that it would be easier, just maybe a little less demanding on my knees).
