cymry: (woman reading)

* Kushiel's Avatar by Jacqueline Carey (reread)
* Kushiel's Scion by Jacqueline Carey - i was pleasantly surprised; i was fully expecting a mediocre set of characters but in fact i fell in love with Imri within a few chapters. Carey has managed to actually put together a second trilogy without diminishing the first (though it won't replace the first trilogy in my heart)
* Kushiel's Justice by Jacqueline Carey - part 2. i'm trying really hard to wait til part 3 comes out in paperback before i read it. we'll see if i manage that.
* Ecoholic by Adria Vasil - a thorough guidebook to a more environmentally friendly take on life especially aimed at Canadians. it even comes with David Suzuki's seal of approval. seriously, folks, this one is worth it.
* Uses and Abuses of History by Margaret MacMillan - MacMillan has a wonderfully readable style, unlike most historians. she discusses, in a general and layman-friendly fashion, the way history is viewed and used by today's society. she even throws in a few purely Canadian examples, such as the big controversy with the War Museum a few years ago. i'll have to buy this when it comes out in paperback.
* Blood+ vol. 2 by Katsura Asuka - i'm still intrigued with how they're reimagining this series.
* Wonderful Tonight by Pattie Boyd - this autobiography caught my eye and i picked it up on a whim. the author's voice is a little scattered and she jumps from one subject and time to another, but the overall story is fascinating. a unique perspective on the Beatles and the rock scene of the 60s.
* Fables 10: The Good Prince by Bill Willingham
* Black Ships by Jo Graham - a wonderfully unexpected little novel: it managed to do what "Lavinia" failed at, which is evoke the Aeneid in all its power with a more readable voice and a strong feminine point of view. narrated by a Trojan oracle, this book manages to give Aeneas honor and humanity, and casts the entire adventure in an almost purely historical setting. i strongly recommend it.
