May. 23rd, 2009 01:08 pmi'm trying to maintain my good mood, despite weather fluctuations, lack of sleep and a cat who refused to take "it's Saturday, let me SLEEP!" as an excuse for not being awake before dawn. so far, i'm somewhat successful.
tried my hand at swing dancing from the male perspective yesterday and found it enjoyable, though more work than i generally want to put into things. one reason i'm enjoying swing dancing so much is that i am literally forced to let go and take all my cues from my partner - a great exercise in letting go of that closely guarded control i'm notorious for. being the "guy" involves, big surprise, leading and all the thoughts associated with that. a constant stream of "and now we'll do this and why don't we try that and oh, how would i go about doing this?" is fun, but not relaxing, especially as i'm only beginning to figure out what the hell i'm doing.
quieter than usual evening due to Frankie Manning's birthday memorial in NYC (apparently they'll be trying to set a world record for doing the Shim Sham in Central Park!); all the good DJs and many, many of the locals were out of town. still had a good time though, getting out and about. maybe i'll manage to squeeze in one more night before i leave town.
i'm off to the used book fair. silly idea, as it'll mean MORE books to move, but hey, how can i pass it up?
