Book list for October 2007. a few longer books, and lots and lots of studying.

* Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer - teen crack. really.
* The Bridges of Madison County by Robert James Waller - this is not something i would have picked up on my own, but a friend told me i'd like it, and i grudgingly read it when she put it into my hands. now, this is very much a love story, but the writing is intelligent and evocative, so there is much more to it than that. the short length is a blessing (i don't know how much longer it could have held my attention) but it was definately worth the read.
* Ni d'Eve ni d'Adam by Amelie Nothomb - the latest in her crazy novels, this one covers her love affair with a Japanese boy. in typical Nothomb style, it's weird, and wacky, and leaves you with a general sense of "what the heck?". not one of her best, but not bad.
* The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory - the latest in my quest to "read it before the movie comes out". this book is WAY too long for no reason. i lost interest about half-way through, though i read it til the end just for completion's sake. i think this might actually be a better movie than book - the flow would certainly be improved by a time-limit. there's only so much see-sawing they can do between mistresses before your attention begins to waver.
* Sickened by Julie Gregory - one of those "on a whim" reads. a coworker and i saw it come in a while ago, wondered at it a little (especially as it's classified as Self-Help for some ridiculous reason; this is definately a biography). the "omg, no one's parents can really be like that!" reaction is gut-wrenching and fades as you start seeing more and more evidence of the insanity certain people project onto their children. a sobering look at the insiduous nature of some illnesses.
