Book list April 2007
May. 2nd, 2007 03:34 pmBook list for April 2007.
* Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi. not exactly what i expected - having not read 95% of the books to which she kept referring, it was difficult to follow. i also wasn't the biggest fan of the pacing and organization - the timeline kept jumping back and forth in a confusing fashion, and in all, i just didn't get what i was hoping for: something more like "The Bookseller of Kabul", perhaps.
* Christine: SOE Agent and Churchill's Favorite Spy by Madelaine Masson. again, not what i was hoping for. the title itself is downright ridiculous (i suspect a title chosen by the publisher rather than the author) and, rather than a biography about a respected and decorated war hero/secret agent, the book read like a list of who's-who of WWII - a very dry list. though apparently Christine Granville was the likely basis for Ian Fleming's Vesper Lynd in "Casino Royale" - she was having an affair with Fleming at the time.
* Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling (reread)
* Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling (reread)
