cymry: (bleach-my path)
the weather is still frightful. the long-range forecast is predicting -4 as the lowest temperature over the next two weeks, and that's for one day. where, oh where, is the snow? a green xmas is depressing, especially since the rest of the country is getting all the snow they want (and more!).

presents are almost all bought (one more purchase to make, but that's at work and i'm waiting for the price to go down again, so it doesn't count), and even mostly wrapped. busy days ahead, as usual. i'm trying to relax while i can, but i'm not so good at relaxing...

dug out my grandmother's old sewing machine. it's gotta be from the 50s at least, if not older - i've looked and looked, but there's no date on it anywhere. i've even tried looking online, but the company that made it (Imperial) no longer exists, or has been swallowed up. i've found a few Singer Imperial ones, but they look nothing like it, and the logo on mine is very, very British, so it might have come from overseas. not sure - i don't know all that much about my grandmother's life before she married my grandfather in the 70s. if i haven't traced it by xmas, i'll try to remember to ask my grandfather.

the thing works... but either the needle was in wrong or it's misaligned, cause i broke one yesterday testing it out. took me a half-hour to thread the thing, but i viewed it as a challenge. there are no less than 10 threading points on the danged thing, one of them up IN the machine. meh. i'm gonna try changing the needle today and seeing if that'll fix it up. if not, it'll be in to the shop with it... if i can find anyone who can still work on this thing. it came with one of those old oil cans and everything. it's very entertaining.
