mmmm, road trips.
Aug. 10th, 2004 11:22 ammy week will likely consist entirely of trips off-island. and i'm going to love every second of it.
went to pick up Lind's car in St-Raymond yesterday. it was a long drive. 'fana and i took a few detours on the way home though, traipsing through the countryside looking for things.
i have a love affair with huge, rambly old Catholic churches. while not religious in the least, i feel the same reverence for these massive expressions of faith that i do for ancient temples. they are sacred and glorious, especially if they come with stained glass windows.
so we did a little driving, followed a few signs, and dug up 2 beautiful churches. pictures were taken, i dragged 'fana up and down the properties like an awe-struck schoolgirl, and now i'm very, very happy.
it turns out one of these churches is linked to me by blood. in 1684, Rene Provost and Anne Daudelin (my great-into infinity grandparents) were married at Ste-Anne-de-la-Perade church. they were the first of that side of the family to emigrate from France. i just wish i'd thought to go inside.
