Feb. 26th, 2003 11:59 pmsome days it pays to go into work. a woman came in asking for an Urdu-English dictionary. i promptly told her that we didn't have any, at which point she insisted that her friend had informed her that she got one here. this must have been at one of my up moments, for i quite nicely turned to C (who knows absolutely everything about the section) and asked her. her response, of course, was that we had NEVER had any. so the woman starts begging me to call other stores, to see whether they have it. explaining to her (3 times) that the smaller stores had, quite naturally, a smaller selection didn't seem to get thru, so i tried, just to humor her.
response #1: "um, uh.... that's not even in the computer!"
response #2: "no." immediate, succint, to the point.
and my personal favorite:
response #3: "urdu? is that a language?"
