And somehow, like magic, it's August. Scary.
Books
Arrow's Flight by Mercedes Lackey (reread) - lots of comfort books this month
Arrow's Fall by Mercedes Lackey (reread)
The Drowning Girl by Caitlin R. Kiernan - as disturbing as The Red Tree, if not more.
Ten Green Bottles by Vivian Jeanette Kaplan - Jewish refugees in Shanghai, more research work, but very interesting
In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson - fascinating story compiled from the notes, diaries and political papers of various sources, all strung together into a very readable novel-type story. A little too American for my tastes (lots of it went over my head, I suspect) but very interesting to see the rise of Nazi Germany in the mid 1930s.
The Men with the Pink Triangle by Heinz Heger - one of the few books I've found that talk about the subject, much less a personal account. Fascinating and an easy read.
Moon Called by Patricia Briggs (reread)
Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs (reread)
Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs (reread)
Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs (reread)
Movies
Babies (2010) - I thought this might be an interesting documentary from an anthropological point of view. After the first 20 minutes, however, I just got bored.
Brave (2012) - awesome and nothing like I expected. Not sure it's my favorite of the Pixar movies, though.
Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) - not terrible. Gorgeous effects, decent acting (Charlize Theron's brilliant acting nicely balances Kristen Stewart's complete inability to act), and good story. It could have been worse.
Arjun: the Warrior Prince (2012) - beautiful animation, lots of interesting storyline. Can't wait to see the second one.
